Man charged with reckless driving after VSP patrol car was hit in Henry County
HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Virginia State Police patrol car was hit on Route 220 in Henry County on April 20, as Distracted Driving Awareness Month ends.
At around 9:05 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, a 2023 Toyota Highlander traveling southbound in the right lane on Route 220, or Church and Main Street, hit a state police patrol car.
The car then stopped in the right lane with emergency lights on. According to a social post, the trooper was helping a disabled vehicle.
The trooper, who was not in the car when it was hit, and the driver in the disabled car, sustained minor injuries after they jumped over the guardrail to avoid being hit.
The injured driver in the Toyota, who has been identified as 58-year-old William J. Likins of Oakland, Maryland, was wearing a seatbelt and was taken to a local hospital.
Officials said Likins has been charged with reckless driving.
