Man facing murder charge after 64-year-old woman found dead in Richmond apartment

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A Richmond man is facing a first-degree murder charge after a 64-year-old woman was found dead in an apartment during a welfare check in early July.
Just after 7:40 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, officers with the Richmond Police Department were called to an apartment in the 1600 block of Rosecrest Avenue for a welfare check.
When they arrived, officers found 64-year-old Teresa Jackson of Richmond in the apartment, down and unresponsive with a gunshot wound. She died at the scene.
On Tuesday, Sept. 9, police announced that an arrest had been made in connection with this incident on Aug. 9.

The suspect, 23-year-old Jayarie Baskerville-Griffin of Richmond, has been charged with first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
