Man to spend decades in prison for killing 33-year-old at Richmond bus stop
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A man was sentenced to 43 years in prison on Friday for shooting and killing another man at a bus stop in front of Richmond City Hall in March 2024.
On Friday, March 7 -- one day shy of a year after he fatally shot 33-year-old Vincent Robinson, Jr. at a Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) bus stop -- Johnathan Jackson was sentenced to a total of 63 years in prison, with 20 years suspended. This means he will serve 43 years behind bars.
Just before 8 a.m. on March 8, 2024, Jackson shot Robinson in the torso at a bus stop in the 900 block of East Broad Street, in front of Richmond City Hall.
Robinson was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

Jackson was arrested about two weeks later and charged with Robinson's first-degree murder, as well as the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
At the end of his two-day trial by jury, Jackson was found guilty on these two charges.

The majority of Jackson's active sentence is the result of his murder charge. The judge gave him 60 years with 20 suspended for the murder charge, then three years for the firearm charge.
Robinson's death continues to have an impact on his family, including his now 11-year-old son. Multiple of those family members were present at the sentencing, with both his mother and the mother of Robinson's son offering testimony.
In a previous interview with 8News, Robinson's uncle, Timothy Robinson, described his nephew as "very well-loved."
