Maryland man facing fraud charges after allegedly using RRHA credit card
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A Maryland man has been charged with fraud and theft after he allegedly paid for a hotel room in Pennsylvania with a credit card that belongs to the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA).
According to a release from the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office, 47-year-old Patrick Rooney has been accused of paying for hotel rooms at a Unity Township hotel in Pennsylvania using a RRHA credit card.
Rooney was charged by Pennsylvania State Police with access device fraud and theft charges, according to authorities. He has also been denied bail, and is currently considered a flight risk.
Officials said that days after an encounter Rooney had involving state troopers and his son, Thomas Rooney, two rooms were booked by Patrick for seven days,
The release added that Thomas was charged by state police last month after being accused of trying to enter a resident's home while impersonating a Pittsburgh police officer.
When state police were called to investigate, Patrick made the claim that he and Thomas were selling gravel, according to officials.
Thomas has been charged with impersonating a public servant, simple assault and harassment, according to the release. He was also denied bail.
