Maymont’s 100th anniversary: What to know about reopening of Maymont Mansion

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Details about Maymont's series of events celebrating the park's 100th anniversary, including the reopening of the Maymont Mansion, are here.

After closing for a two-year preservation project, the Maymont Mansion will officially open its doors next month, just in time for spring. Community members are invited to join in the fun at the Mansion Open House and Garden Party on March 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The free event will offer opportunities for walk-through and guided tours of the main floor of the 1893 home. Community members will have a chance to see the mansion's new red slate roof, new climate control and fire safety systems and new detail work in several rooms of the home, organizers said.

The celebration will also feature family-friendly activities for the public, including live entertainment, games and craft activities on the lawn, food trucks and vintage cars. Guests can enjoy activities representative of the 1920s outside the mansion, where dancers will demonstrate the Charleston and other 1920s moves, per organizers.

The garden party will host several community groups, including the Art Deco Society of Virginia, the Richmond Region Antique Car Club with vintage cars, Historic Richmond and more. Local historical organizations, including the Virginia Department of Historic Resources and the Library of Virginia, will also join in the fun at the celebration.

Organizers said except for the Virginia Wildlife Trail -- which will reopen on April 18 -- the entire 100 acres of Maymont, and all three of its entrances, will be open for exploration.

Folks who can't wait until the official reopening will have the chance to explore the three-story mansion on March 20. Tickets to the Maymont Mansion Champagne Toast Preview night cost $30 for adults and will include a glass of champagne or a non-alcoholic beverage.

All proceeds go toward supporting Maymont. For more information, visit Maymont for a list of reopening events this year.
