Missing 87-year-old woman found in New York City, suspect in police custody

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A woman missing out of Chesterfield was found in New York City on Sunday, several hours after Chesterfield County Police reported she had been taken from her home by a family member. According to police, 87-year-old Ursala David was seen being "removed from her home" in the 6700 block of Gills Gate Drive by Elvin Moreno, 36, of Chesterfield, around 4 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29. Before she was found, Virginia State Police said David "is believed to have been abducted and in danger." They also said the pair were picked up by an unknown vehicle and may be headed to Brooklyn, New York. A release from Chesterfield police revealed that Davis has dementia and Moreno -- one of David's family members -- was not given permission to remove her from the home. Virginia State Police said Moreno is actively on the sex offender registry and has an outstanding warrant on file. "Police are now investigating this as an abduction," Chesterfield Police said during the search. "A warrant for Moreno has been obtained for Abduction for financial benefit. Police have information placing Moreno in New York City." Later in the afternoon on Sunday at 3:19 p.m., police released an update saying that David had been found in New York City and "is receiving medical treatment" before she is brought back to her family. As of the time this article was written, Moreno is in police custody in New York City and awaiting extradition, according to police.
