Motorcyclist seriously injured after hitting embankment during police chase exceeding 100 mph in Chesterfield
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A motorcyclist is in the hospital after police said they hit an embankment in Chesterfield County following a pursuit that exceeded 100 mph.
Just after 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, a trooper with Virginia State Police spotted a motorcycle exceeding 100 miles per hour on Route 288 northbound, north of Chester Road.
The trooper tried to pull over the motorcycle on the ramp to Iron Bridge Road westbound, but the vehicle took off, and state police initiated a pursuit.
State police said they "lost sight of the motorcycle" near the intersection of Iron Bridge Road and Kingsland Road. Soon after, the trooper found the motorcycle off the road near the intersection.
The motorcycle turned on a curve on Iron Bridge Road, but ran off the road, according to police. The motorcyclist reportedly went off the right side of the road, hit an embankment and was then ejected from the vehicle.
Police said the suspect motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, and charges are still pending.
