Musical comedy ‘Some Like It Hot’ now playing at the Altria Theater

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- 8News got a visit on Wednesday from a cast member with the hit Broadway musical "Some Like It Hot" -- which people can catch at the Altria Theater in Richmond this week.

8News Anchor Delaney Hall and Stormtracker8 Meteorologist Jacqueline Waters were joined by Edward Juvier, who plays Osgood Fielding III in the show, as he talked about what audience members can expect.

The musical is based on the classic Billy Wilder film of the same name, which follows two men trying to escape the Mafia by joining an all-female jazz band. Juvier described the show as "a new adaptation and updated version of the classic film."

Juvier also talked about how he found his way into musical theater, and what the touring experience has been like -- especially for his first time stopping in the Richmond area.

"I've been doing it, sort of, my whole life," Juvier said. "It's my first time coming through Richmond, I've been on three national tours before -- we've played Norfolk before, which was a lot of fun -- but this time I get to be here in Richmond, so I'm enjoying all the culture in this area, it's wonderful."

Those planning on seeing the show might be surprised to learn that it's more than a gangster flick, according to Juvier.

"What I love about the show, is that it's such a sweet surprise," Juvier said. "You walk in and you think you're getting a gangster, guys and dolls type musical -- and you do get that -- but then it has a beautiful message, [and] a really heartwarming story, especially for today's time."
