Northumberland store awarded for selling $348M Mega Millions ticket, largest jackpot in Virginia history

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- It's been nearly a month since the numbers were drawn, but no one has claimed the largest jackpot ever won in Virginia's history. However, the Northumberland County store that sold it was just given a cash prize.

During a Monday, June 27 Mega Millions drawing, the numbers 18-21-29-42-50 with a Mega Ball of 2 were pulled. One lucky ticket purchased from E & C VA -- located at 14878 Northumberland Highway in the Burgess area -- managed to match all six numbers.

The jackpot sat at a whopping $348 million, according to the Virginia Lottery. This is the largest jackpot ever won in the Commonwealth and the 10th Mega Millions jackpot won in Virginia since the game launched in 2002.

As of the time of reporting, the winner has yet to claim their prize -- but E & C VA was awarded a special bonus, per a July 22 press release. Virginia Lottery retailers are entitled to a $50,000 prize for selling a winning ticket that's worth $5 million.

If you are the lucky ticketholder, you have 180 days from the drawing date to claim your winnings. You can then choose to either take the full jackpot amount before taxes in annual payments over 30 years, or a one-time cash payment of about $155.5 million before taxes.
