Over 17,000 homes, businesses without power in Central Virginia
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Over 17,000 homes and businesses were without power in Central Virginia Friday morning following severe weather that passed through the area.
Severe thunderstorms hit the Greater Richmond Region beginning in the afternoon of Thursday, June 19. The stormy weather damaged power lines, causing outages across the area.
As of 10:25 a.m. on Friday, June 20, over 17,000 homes and businesses were without power in Central Virginia, according to Dominion Energy, with the highest remaining outages in the following localities:
- Richmond: 2,222 homes and businesses without power
- Henrico County: 9,917 homes and businesses without power
- Hanover County: 5,121 homes and businesses without power
At the peak of the outage on Thursday, June 19, nearly 90,000 homes and businesses had no power.
