Pedestrian killed in tractor-trailer crash with propane truck at Williamsburg Road intersection
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- One man is dead and another is in the hospital after a tractor-trailer and a truck hauling propane crashed at an intersection on Williamsburg Road in Henrico County on Thursday afternoon.
Around 11:45 a.m. on Sept. 4, officers were called to the scene of a deadly crash involving a tractor-trailer, another vehicle and a pedestrian -- who police identified as a man -- at the intersection of Williamsburg Road and S. Laburnum Avenue.
According to police, a preliminary investigation indicates that the tractor-trailer was hauling a concrete slab when it collided with a small straight-truck hauling propane at the intersection.
"The collision caused the tractor-trailer to jackknife and flip over on its side, striking the male pedestrian who was on the sidewalk," a release from Henrico Police reads. "As this crash occurred, two secondary crashes followed involving two vehicles. A third vehicle and an unattended motorcycle sustained damage from debris in the original crash."
The pedestrian was pinned underneath the tractor-trailer, which had flipped onto its side, and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
The driver of the tractor-trailer -- also identified as a man by police -- was extricated from the cab of his vehicle and taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
