Person injured after crash involving dump truck, tractor-trailer on I-64 in Goochland

GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A person was injured following a two-vehicle crash involving a dump truck and a tractor-trailer on Interstate 64 in Goochland County on Thursday morning.

Virginia State Police said the crash took place at about 3:40 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, on I-64 East at the Route 623 exit in Goochland and involved a dump truck and a tractor-trailer.

Police said an initial investigation shows a dump truck was stopped or disabled in the right lane when a tractor-trailer traveling in the same lane hit it from behind.

"At this time, it has not been confirmed whether the dump truck was moving at the time of impact," police said in a release.

The dump truck hit the right embankment, and the tractor-trailer hit the left embankment following the crash. Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles, and one passenger was injured, according to police.

They were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have reported that the tractor-trailer leaked "significant diesel fuel," prompting assistance from the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Traffic Incident Management (TRIP).

According to police, there were some extensive road closures, with cleanup operations underway.

This crash remains under investigation.
