Petersburg native expands phlebotomy services to bridge health gap

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- A Petersburg native is filling in the gap for her local community with her first stand-alone phlebotomy business.

Frenchie Burks, owner of Burks Phlebotomy On The Go LLC, has transformed her mobile services into her own on-site business.

Burks has worked as a phlebotomist -- drawing blood for laboratory testing -- for nearly a decade. She holds a certification from the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT).

In 2020, Burks began to offer her laboratory services in Chesterfield County. After she felt as though she was not being seen or making a difference, she decided to take her business to her hometown in the Tri-Cities.

Burks continues to break barriers by meeting the needs of those with health conditions and impairments, as well as those who are homebound. Her services include blood tests, paternity tests and more.

I just want to bring awareness of [what] important blood work is, just how blood work can save your life to maintain health," Burks said. “If you don’t have health, you have nothing. Health is wealth."
