Petersburg’s city animal shelter is full, dogs in need of fur-ever homes

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- The city of Petersburg's animal shelter is at capacity, with staff asking anyone who has room for a new furry friend to consider taking home one of its many adoptable dogs.

On Wednesday, April 2, the city of Petersburg announced that the animal shelter operated by Petersburg Animal Care and Control is full.

"While the staff do an incredible job taking care of them all [the shelter's dogs], loving homes are desperately needed and wanted," the city said in a Facebook post. "These dogs would love to find their forever perfect places to live their best lives -- could it be with you?"

Over 200 Richmonders received letters from city about debts that aren’t theirs

The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and is located at 1600 Johnson Road.
