RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond-based nonprofit 2 End The Stigma hosted the first annual Serve For Scott Pickleball Tournament on Saturday morning.
The organization was founded by Jill Cichowicz, who also serves as its CEO, to raise awareness about substance use disorder and eliminate its associated stigma. She started the nonprofit after her twin brother, Scott, died of fentanyl poisoning in 2017.
On Saturday, Nov. 29, the tournament took place at Bangers and Dinks, an indoor pickleball facility in Richmond. Doors opened at 10 a.m., with the tournament kicking off at 10:30 a.m.

"We started to do this this year because we thought it'd be a good way to get people out and get physical," Cichowicz said. "I know the holiday season can be really tough, especially if you've lost a loved one. So we just wanted to remind the community that we're having fun and raising money for a great cause -- it's all for Scott."
Cichowicz added that her brother would have loved the event, noting his passion for fitness and health.
"He loved community, he loved his family, so I think everybody coming together to raise awareness about a cause," she said.
She said this event is more of an awareness event rather than a money maker.
