CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A swearing-in ceremony was held to welcome Col. Edward F. "Frank" Carpenter Jr. as the new Chief of Police for Chesterfield County. County leaders and regional law enforcement officials gathered at the Beulah Recreation Center on Tuesday, Nov. 19, to install Carpenter as the county's fifth police chief. On Oct. 30, it was announced that Carpenter would be taking the position after serving the department for 25 years. “I am profoundly humbled by the Board of Supervisors choosing me to lead one of the nation’s premier law enforcement agencies,” Carpenter in a statement in October. “The men and women of our department recognize the immense responsibility of serving a community that prioritizes public safety.” Carpenter replaced Col. Jeffrey S. Katz, who had served in the position since January 2018 and left the department on May 1 to take a position with the FBI's Training Division's Leadership Development Unit in Prince William County. Deputy Chief of Strategic Management Lt. Col. Brad Badgerow served as acting police chief between May and November.
