POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- An 85-mile run held on Saturday morning at the Powhatan County High School aims to honor first responders who died on Sept. 11, 2001.
The Never Forget Run, founded by Russell Holland, was held on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 13, a few days after the 24th anniversary of 9/11. With 343 laps around the Powhatan High School’s track, the name and company of a first responder will be announced for each lap.

According to the Never Forget Run website, the day included a silent action, T-shirt sales, 50/50 raffle, a DJ and fire, rescue and police vehicles, with a final lap at around 6 p.m.
8News reporter Allison Williams spoke to Holland, who said he was reportedly living in Atlanta, George, on Sept. 11, 2001, with family members living in Washington D.C. His mother, who worked inside the Pentagon, was not there on the day of the attacks.
The run starts at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, and it takes around 19 hours to complete the nearly 85-mile run. As a result, the run will last all day -- through the evening of Sept. 13. It is open to anyone who wants to come out and run a lap or two.
All donations benefit the Volunteer Fire Companies and Rescue Squad, per organizers.
