PHOTOS: Nonprofit hosts holiday adventure for families at Kings Dominion
DOSWELL, Va. (WRIC) -- The nonprofit organization A Kid Again hosted a WinterFest Holiday Adventure at Kings Dominion this weekend, offering families that are navigating life-threatening conditions a festive opportunity. On Saturday, Dec. 7, around 207 families were invited to the WinterFest Holiday Adventure at Kings Dominion, which included ice skating, live entertainment, holiday-themed attractions and more. This event aimed to help these families that are facing life-threatening illnesses by distracting them with holiday joy. 8News got the chance to speak with Alyce McSherry and her daughter Alivia, who has type 1 diabetes, about what it means to be able to attend an event like this. "It's nice to see family members being able to enjoy themselves and having the opportunity to especially get on the ice skating rinks with wheelchairs and have a good time," Alyce McSherry said. "Every year the families get to know each other and so sometimes this is the only time of year that we get to see each other." Alivia also had her best friend Emma Nichols there with her to enjoy the festivities. "I like that I get to come on these opportunities with her, because it's fun to see everyone come together and have fun," Nichols said.
