RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Two Richmond residents are without a home after a large tree fell onto their roof on Tuesday, causing significant damage.
Just after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, crews with the Richmond Fire Department were called to a home in the 1000 block of W. 47th Street for the report of a building collapse.
When they arrived, they found a large tree had fallen on top of a home. Photos that our 8News crew captured at the scene show the huge size of the tree and the hole it put into the home's roof.

8News spoke to fire officials at the scene, who said the two people inside the home could not get out on their own. While they were not injured, they are non-ambulatory and therefore needed assistance.
Firefighters were able to enter the home through the back door and get both residents out. They were taken to a local hospital to be evaluated to ensure that the stress of what happened had not aggravated any pre-existing medical conditions.

Fire officials told 8News that the home will be condemned due to the damage. They added that they are currently working to ensure that the two residents are cared for, whether that be by family or by the Red Cross.
At this time, what caused the tree to fall is unknown. The investigation into this incident continues. Fire officials told 8News this will include confirming the property the tree was planted on, as it appears to have been "basically on the line" between the impacted home and a neighboring property.
