Pocahontas State Park to host Groundhog Day Gala

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Pocahontas State Park will host its Groundhog Day Gala on Saturday, where attendees can meet Sweet Pea the groundhog, an educational ambassador from a local wildlife rehabilitation group. The gala will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the park, located at 10301 State Park Road in Chesterfield County. Groundhog Day is celebrated every Feb. 2, and according to the legend, if the groundhog sees its shadow, we'll have six more weeks of winter. If it doesn't see its shadow, spring will supposedly come early. In celebration of the tradition, folks will be able to meet Sweet Pea, a groundhog who serves as an educational ambassador for AWARE, a local wildlife rehabilitation group.
