Police close White Bank Park after shooting, suspect still at large
COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) -- The Colonial Heights Police Department has announced the closure of White Bank Park after a person was shot several times on a nearby boat ramp Wednesday evening.
The department posted to Facebook on Thursday morning, informing the public about the closure -- which will be in place until further notice.
Police said the area is still an active scene, and the closure applies to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. There have been barriers put in place to prevent people from accessing the roadway.
Those that try to bypass the barriers or use Moose Lodge as an entrance may interfere with the ongoing investigation, authorities said.
This closure comes after Colonial Heights Police responded to the report of a shooting at White Bank Park at around 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2. Officers found a victim near the boat ramp with multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators said that a suspect dressed in all-black approached the victim and fired multiple shots. The suspect then went to the parking lot and shot at a person parking their vehicle, but missed.
Following the parking lot shots, the suspect left the area in a dark-colored SUV.
As of the time of reporting, police continue to search for the suspect.
Anyone with information regarding this incident are asked to contact Detective J. M. Vaughan with the Colonial Heights Police Department at 804-524-8701 or at vaughanj@colonialheightsva.gov.
