Police continue investigation into stabbing at Henrico High School
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The latest in the Henrico High School stabbing — a student is facing two felony charges in connection to the crime and the victim is still in in critical condition at the hospital. Officials with the Henrico County Police Division said that the teen suspect is facing charges of aggravated malicious wounding and stabbing to commit a felony. Police reportedly responded just before 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, for the report of an altercation between two students. The School Resource Officer was on scene immediately after the call and found two teen boys -- a victim and a suspect, according to police. One of the teens was taken to a local hospital for life-threatening injuries. 8News spoke with Mike Jones, a longtime school security expert, who said incidents like this require a stern review of all practices and safety measures. He said one thing to keep in mind is that most of the school's classrooms are accessed by walking outside -- students don't necessarily have to walk through the main entrance to enter the school. Classes did resume on Thursday but Jones said parents, students and educators are in a tough spot not knowing more details. “Should I send my child to school when I don't even know what happened?” Jones said. “The other question is why are the schools and police being silent? The last thing they need is a lack of information. Granted, you need to have verified information before you put it out. I understand there are reasons to hold information because the investigation is still going on. However, so is the fright.” Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Henrico County Police Division at 804-501-5000.
