Powhatan Planning Commission moves forward with Pocahontas Landmark Center demolition

POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Powhatan County Planning Commission is moving forward with plans to demolish part of the Pocahontas Landmark Center (PLC) after a meeting on Tuesday.
The decision came after a planning commission meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 2 where board members discussed the request for demolition by the Powhatan County School Board.
Back in August, the school board voted 3-2 on Tuesday, Aug. 12 to move forward with the demolition.
The demolition of the structure has been a hot topic amongst the county's residents due to the historical nature of the building with some crediting it as a "historic symbol of desegregation."
The Powhatan County board of supervisors is set to vote again on the future of the 39,275 square-foot structure on Sept. 22 at 6 p.m.
