Ranger to lead ‘Fungus Among Us’ hike at Powhatan State Park

POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- April showers bring May flowers, and fungi, too! A park ranger at Powhatan State Park will lead a guided hike on Saturday, where attendees will search for springtime mushrooms and other fungi.

From 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, park ranger and "mycophile" Mary Lincoln will lead attendees on a guided hike throughout Powhatan State Park in search of mushrooms and other fungi.

The walk will be at a leisurely pace on mostly flat, forested trail, with frequent stops to investigate fungi along the way, according to the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).

Attendees should wear comfortable walking shoes and be prepared for the weather.

Those looking to attend were recommended to register for the event. Registration is not required, but it allows organizers to contact attendees in case of a cancelation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
