Republican state Sen. Bryce Reeves withdraws from U.S. Senate race

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Three months after launching his campaign, Virginia state Sen. Bryce Reeves (R-Orange) is no longer looking to unseat three-term Sen. Mark Warner (D) in the U.S. Senate.

Reeves announced on social media on Sunday, Dec. 28, that he's ending his campaign for next year's race.

The decision came after "prayerful reflection" and conversations with Reeves's family, per the announcement.

"A serious family health matter and the realities of timing require my full attention at home. My faith and my family come first," the senator wrote.

Reeves said he's going to seek reelection for his current post in the state Senate in 2027.

In the meantime, the state senator said his work will continue in the Virginia General Assembly to ensure that "Virginia remains the best place in America for our military and veterans," among other priorities.

Reeves launched his campaign in September and was one of three candidates seeking the Republican nomination to challenge Warner next year.

Earlier this month, Warner announced his plans to campaign for a fourth term in the U.S. Senate.
