Rescue crews spend Wednesday morning looking for missing person in Appomattox River

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- Authorities are still searching for a person they say fell into the Appomattox River Tuesday night.
The disappearance happened after the missing man and a group of people went on a fishing trip on Tuesday, July 8. The Chesterfield County Police Department are leading the investigation, and do not have updates on his whereabouts as of the time of reporting.
The search stopped for a couple hours overnight for safety reasons, after lightning came through Central Virginia, but a member of Petersburg Fire says all resources were, and have been deployed to find the man.
Crews started their search Tuesday night and confirmed his last known location.
Search and rescue crews went down in the water, and a drone from Colonial Heights went up in the air to find him, but the efforts were to no avail.
Our 8News crew watched as a dive team from Chesterfield was sent out on the road and headed up river to get answers. Other emergency vehicles were stationed on University Boulevard just beyond the Chesterfield County and Petersburg line.
