Restrooms reopen at Richmond International Airport after low water pressure caused closures

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Some restrooms at Richmond International Airport (RIC) in Henrico County have been temporarily closed due to low water pressure on Wednesday.

At around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, RIC reported in a post on X that the restrooms in Concourse A are temporarily closed due to low water pressure.

According to a notice posted at RIC, passengers are encouraged to use the restroom before entering the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint.

This comes after the City of Richmond issued a boil water advisory for several neighborhoods after multiple water filters at the city’s water treatment plant were clogged, ultimately causing a decrease in water pressure on Tuesday, May 27.

On Wednesday morning, officials said Henrico’s water remains safe for consumption and use, and the county is not subject to a boil water advisory.

Additionally, Henrico County announced Wednesday morning that it was able to refill its reserve tanks overnight, which are temporarily providing water to its customers in the county’s East End.

Just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Henrico made an official announcement, saying that all county residents could experience variable water pressure as engineers with its Department of Public Utilities make adjustments.

“[The engineers are working] to keep water flowing in all parts of the county, intentionally opening and closing valves as needed to keep the system above safe pressures countywide until the boil water advisory in Richmond is lifted,” the county said.

On the morning of Thursday, May 29, a spokesperson for RIC reported that water pressure at the airport had returned to normal and all restrooms were reopened.
