RIC and LanguageLine Solutions’ partnership to break language barrier with interpreters in over 240 languages
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond International Airport (RIC) is partnering with LanguageLine Solutions to provide people a way to communicate despite the language barrier.
According to a release from RIC, the partnership allows passengers access to interpretation services in the passenger terminal, and will provide professional interpreters in over 240 languages, including American Sign Language (ASL).
RIC's partnership with LanguageLine Solutions -- a language access provider since 1982 -- "ensures a safer, more inclusive, and welcoming experience for all passengers, regardless of the language they speak," they said.
“We when say we seek to offer an exceptional travel experience for all customer, we mean all
customers,” said Perry J. Miller, Ph.D., A.A.A., I.A.P., president and CEO of the Capital Region
Airport Commission. “LanguageLine is an innovative solution, efficiently bringing interpretative
language access to our international visitors. We estimate that nearly 10 percent of our customers are taking the domestic portion of an international journey, so the potential need is significant.”
RIC will also find photos in ticketing, the lower-level arrival areas and both concourses.
“Everything we do begins with why we do it. We exist to ensure that every person, regardless of
the language they speak, feels seen, heard, and understood,” said Simon Yoxon-Grant, president
& CEO, LanguageLine Solutions. “We are incredibly proud to stand alongside Richmond
International Airport to create a more inclusive and welcoming experience for all travelers.”
The access to professional interpreters in over 240 languages allow airport staff to communicate clearly and effectively, despite the language barrier, and those who speak limited English or are deaf or hard of hearing can "feel more confident and informed throughout their journey," according to RIC.
