Richmond Animal League warns pet owners of scam callers claiming their pet is hurt

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond Animal League (RAL) is warning local pet owners of a recent scam utilizing a fake version of the organization's phone number.

According to a post made by RAL on Friday, April 11, the scam involves someone using a fake version of RAL's number and telling people they have found their missing, injured pet.

As a result, they ask for thousands of dollars to be sent over the phone for "emergency treatment."
