Richmond Ballet launches new season with Kahlo inspired show

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond Ballet is launching its 2025/2026 season with a ballet inspired by Frida Kahlo's life and art.

According to a release, the season will open with Piensa en Mí (Think of Me), a world premiere by Artistic Director Ma Cong, and will debut at Moving Art One: Passion & Power.

Moving Art One, will also feature the Virginia premiere of Wild Sweet Love, a contemporary ballet by choreographer Trey McIntyre.

Both ballets, as part of Moving Art One, will run from from Sept. 11 through Sept. 21 at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA).

The 2025/2026 season also includes:

    • Oct. 16 to 26 at the VMFA
      • French Twist by Ma Cong
      • Slice to Sharp by Jorma Elo
  • The Nutcracker
    • Dec. 6 to 23 at the Dominion Energy Center
  • Giselle
    • Feb. 13 to 15 at the Dominion Energy Center
  • Moving Art Three: New Works
    • March 19 to 29 at the VMFA
      • Apollo by George Balanchine
      • After Eden by John Butler
