Richmond City employees show off RVA pride in celebration of 804 Day

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmonders celebrated 804 Day on Monday, Aug. 4 by highlighting the region and the people in it.

According to a press release from the City of Richmond, to recognize the day, Chief Administrative Officer Odie Donald II encouraged all city employees to sport their favorite Richmond-themed apparel.

This included shirts, hats, jerseys and bags printed with logos from local businesses, sports teams, community groups and more to show community pride and spirit.

"This day reminds us how much we have to celebrate," Donald said. "From our small businesses to our parks, to our neighborhoods and everything in between, I have a lot of love for my new home."

City employees gathered outside of Richmond City Hall for a group selfie, which, according to the city, captured a colorful snapshot of Team Richmond.

The photo will reportedly be on display on City Hall Selfie Day on Tuesday, Aug. 12, as a part of a national campaign to highlight local governments and the people who make it possible.

"Richmond is a city built on resilience and community,” said Mayor Danny Avula. "Today, we celebrate the people, the businesses, the nonprofits, and the community leaders who work every day to create a vision of this City that they can be proud to call home."

According to officials, Richmond City Hall was lit in red and blue on the evening of Aug. 2 to symbolize community richness and unity, and will continue to be lit in these colors until Aug. 5.
