Richmond Flying Squirrels’ opening night at CarMax Park has sold out

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Richmond Flying Squirrels' inaugural game at the brand-new CarMax Park has officially sold out.

The Squirrels will kick off their 2026-27 baseball season at their new home on April 7. Due to high demand for tickets, anyone interested in attending was asked to enter a ticket lottery -- a lottery that over 30,000 people entered before it closed at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27.

On Friday, March 6, the team announced that all seats for this highly-anticipated opening night have officially been sold.

"The response from the Richmond community continues to prove why this is one of the best fanbases in the country," said Flying Squirrels general manager Anthony Oppermann in a March 6 press release. "CarMax Park is a venue worthy of our loyal fans, and we can't wait for everyone to experience it."

While you may not be able to snag a ticket for CarMax Park's first-ever game anymore, tickets for each of the Squirrels' 68 home games will go on sale on Saturday, March 7.

Attendees of Nutzy's Block Party, which runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, will get first dibs. They will be able to purchase tickets in-person for the duration of the event. Once the party is over at 1 p.m., tickets will become available online.

If you'd still like to get in on the inaugural fun at CarMax Park, the Squirrels announced that they are making their first series at the new stadium special with fan events and exclusive swag.

Fans who attend any of the Squirrels' first six games -- which run from April 7 to 11 -- can come out to CarMax Park early to enjoy a "Blast Off Bash" outside the front gates, starting at 5 p.m. each day. A final bash will be held at noon on Sunday, April 12.

Additionally, fans will receive an Inaugural Season CarMax Park Rally Towel.

"Similar to the final series at The Diamond, it has been our goal to make the Inaugural Series at CarMax Park a memorable event for all who attend," Oppermann said in the release. "The majority of our fans will be experiencing the venue for the first time at each game and we want it to feel special like Opening Night all week long."
