Richmond Marathon sells out ahead of race day for second year in a row

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Organizers for the Allianz Richmond Marathon have announced that the event has sold out months ahead of race day. This is the second consecutive year that the race has sold out beforehand, with last year's event selling out just a few weeks prior.

A release from event organizers, Sports Backers, explained that runners still hoping to participate in the full marathon can join a waiting list, which will remain open until Oct. 30 -- the deadline for race switches and deferrals. There are also still spots available for the CarMax Richmond Half Marathon and the VCU Health Richmond 8K races.

“The energy and support we see from Richmond is unmatched,” said Meghan Keogh, Race Director of the Allianz Richmond Marathon. “In 2024, we were thrilled by the incredible growth of the event, and on race day we saw our community come alive—neighbors cheering, volunteers smiling, and runners achieving lifelong goals. To see another sellout this year is not just about the numbers—it’s a reflection of Richmond’s spirit and why we proudly call this ‘America’s Friendliest Marathon.’”

This year will be the 48th running of the event, with 6,200 participants toeing the start line on Saturday, Nov. 15.
