Richmond’s deputy chief administrative officer resigns

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond deputy chief administrative officer Traci DeShazor has resigned, according to the city. In addition, multiple appointments have been made for the city's offices and departments.

According to a release from the City of Richmond, DeShazor announced her resignation will take effect at the end of March.

"Throughout her tenure at the City of Richmond, Traci has served tirelessly in her role leading the City’s Human Services portfolio and has done an outstanding job serving, supporting, and creating opportunities for the most vulnerable residents," a city spokesperson said in Thursday's release. "She has shown a deep commitment to the City and its residents."

Alongside DeShazor's departure comes multiple appointments, including the following:

  • Maggie Anderson has been appointed as director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. Anderson previously served as Mayor Levar Stoney's Chief of Staff and as the city's first LGBTQ+ liaison.
  • Ross Catrow, who was previously the deputy director for the city's Office of Strategic Communications, has been appointed to director of the office.
  • Gail Johnson has been appointed as director of the Department of General Services. The city said Johnson has over 20 years of experience working with the city on its real estate portfolio, fleet and parking services.
  • Merrick Malone has been appointed as the director of the Department of Housing and Community Development. Malone previously served as the city's acting director of the department.

Scott Morris was previously announced by the city as its permanent director of the Department of Public Utilities. Morris served as the department’s interim director beginning on Jan. 20 after Richmond’s former director, April Bingham, was fired from her position after she rescinded her resignation following the Richmond area water crisis.
