Second wave of sidewalk cleaning coming to Petersburg street

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- Petersburg officials are asking those in its downtown area to do their part to help weekend clean-up efforts on one city street go smoothly.

On Thursday, Sept. 25, Petersburg took to Facebook to remind residents about sidewalk cleaning that's taking place on Sunday, Sept. 28 along N. Sycamore Street, from Tabb Street to Old Street.

This is the second stretch of N. Sycamore Street to be cleaned recently, with the first portion -- that being from Washington Street to Tabb Street -- getting its turn the weekend of Saturday, Sept. 20.

"This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a clean and welcoming environment in Petersburg," the city said on Sept. 23. "Your support is invaluable as we work together to improve the charm and appeal of our city."

Sunday's round of cleaning will start at 6:30 a.m. and continue as needed, the city said.

Those in the area are asked to remove any items that sit in front of their property -- from planters to signs to trash cans -- for the duration of the cleaning. Cars should also be moved. Street parking will not be allowed while cleaning is taking place, the city said.

To help ensure the sidewalk is clear for cleaning, a special trash pick-up will occur in Petersburg's downtown the morning of Saturday, Sept. 27.

Residents and businesses are asked to put out their trash receptacles early Saturday morning, then remove them from the sidewalk once trash has been picked up. The normal trash pick-up schedule will resume on Monday, Sept. 29.
