‘Speeding catches up with you’: Richmond police call for safety after 410 drivers killed by speeding statewide last year

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Richmond Police Department is partnering up with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to remind drivers about the dangers of speeding.

In a recent Facebook post, police reemphasized their campaign message that "Speeding Catches Up With You!"

According to the police, in Virginia, 410 lives were lost to speeding-related crashes last year.

Speeding consequences range from the following:

  • Greater speeding can result in loss of vehicle control
  • Reduced effectiveness of occupant protection equipment
  • An increased degree of crash severity which can lead to more severe injuries

Richmond Police and the NHTSA are looking to send this message: "Let's make the roads safer--slow down and stay alert!"
