‘Speeding catches up with you’: Richmond police call for safety after 410 drivers killed by speeding statewide last year

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Richmond Police Department is partnering up with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to remind drivers about the dangers of speeding.
In a recent Facebook post, police reemphasized their campaign message that "Speeding Catches Up With You!"
According to the police, in Virginia, 410 lives were lost to speeding-related crashes last year.
Speeding consequences range from the following:
- Greater speeding can result in loss of vehicle control
- Reduced effectiveness of occupant protection equipment
- An increased degree of crash severity which can lead to more severe injuries
Richmond Police and the NHTSA are looking to send this message: "Let's make the roads safer--slow down and stay alert!"
