Squirrels claim first home win of the season taking down the Bay Sox 10-0

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Richmond Flying Squirrels broke out of a slump with a big 10-0 win over the Chesapeake Baysox on Friday night at The Diamond for their third win of the year.

The win ended a five-game losing streak for Richmond and was their first home win of the year.

Pitcher Manuel Mercedes had a strong outing, throwing 5.2 scoreless innings. Nick Sinacola finished the game, keeping the shutout going.

Richmond got off to a fast start, scoring four runs in the first inning. Jairo Pomares hit an RBI double, and two wild pitches helped bring in two more runs. Adrián Sugastey also added an RBI single in the frame.

The Squirrels added three more runs in the fifth and two in the seventh. In the eighth, Victor Bericoto hit a solo home run—his third of the season and 25th with Richmond, tying him for 8th on the team's all-time list.

The series continues Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. Jack Choate will pitch for Richmond, and Pat Reilly will start for the Baysox.
