StormTracker 8: Quiet today before a busy week
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - Things will be fairly quiet today before a very active pattern sets in for the week ahead. Multiple winter storms move in next week with Tuesday looking like the messiest of the days.
Today we will see partly sunny to mostly sunny skies. High temperatures will range from the low 50s to low to mid 60s.
More clouds roll in tonight and overnight lows drop into the low 30s. Our next weather system moves in tonight into tomorrow morning.
Precipitation returns to the area tomorrow with a wintry mix to our north and rain showers for the rest of us. Precipitation looks to move in just before sunrise and continue through the afternoon. A wintry mix switches to rain showers by midday and areas along I-64 and south looks to just see a plain rain. A light glaze of ice is possible in northern counties tomorrow morning, which may cause some travel issues if you are heading out then, but overall low impacts from this storm system, please take it easy if you are traveling in northern counties.
We will be quiet for the later half of the weekend and I recommend you enjoy it because things get really busy for the work week. Highs on Sunday will be near 60 under partly sunny skies.
Sunday night our next system approaches and the risk of a wintry mix returns to the area. Our weather models have been trending drier and drier for Monday and most of the area look to pick up little to no accumulation.
Things look to get messy for Tuesday as another system moves in. We should start off as snow before converting to a mix and then rain. The risk of precipitation continues for the duration of the day which could make things a mess on the roads.
Right now it looks like we will see a break on Wednesday with mostly cloudy skies and highs near the middle 40s. I will say our 2 long range weather models differ quite a bit as we head towards the middle of the week so things will likely change as we head through the weekend.
Another system rolls in on Thursday which will bring another chance of a wintry mix to the area.
As temperatures warm into the low 50s on Thursday most of the area look to transition to rain in a hurry.
Valentine’s Day is Friday and my gift to all of you is quiet weather with highs in the upper 40s under partly sunny skies.
