RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - Prepare for several rounds of rain showers over the first half of the new work week, which will lead to likely ponding on roadways and isolated cases of flooding across the 8News viewing area, more on the wet weather details below.

Sunday night into Monday morning, brings us mostly cloudy skies overnight, mild temperatures getting down to around 60 degrees and rain showers returning by Monday morning.

Monday to kick off the new work week will be a wet day, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours, as our next storm system from our southwest approaches the state of Virginia. The rain tomorrow will become steady to heavy at times around the middle of the day and persist through Monday night. Highs tomorrow will only rise into the lower 70s. Watch out for likely ponding on roadways tomorrow, and isolated cases of flooding as well.

Monday night into Tuesday morning brings us more wet weather overnight, mild temperatures getting down to around 60 to 65 degrees and likely ponding on roadways from the ongoing steady to heavy rainfall, and isolated cases of flooding as well.

Tuesday will be another wet day, along with thunderstorms, as our next storm system continues to approach the state of Virginia. The rain on Tuesday will be steady to heavy at times and highs Tuesday will only rise into the lower 70s. Watch out for likely ponding on roadways on Tuesday, and isolated cases of flooding as well.

Tuesday night into Wednesday morning is when we finally see the ongoing steady to heavy rainfall we are expecting from Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening to finally taper off, back down to scattered activity. Thursday through next weekend, will bring warming temperatures and lowering of rain chances. Friday will be very warm, with highs approaching 90 degrees. We may finally dry out by next Sunday and next Monday.
