StormTracker 8: Remaining breezy overnight; all eyes on Wednesday/Thursday
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - All eyes are on a Winter Storm set to impact Central Virginia on Wednesday into Thursday of this week ahead. More on that big weather story in a moment. Our Sunday night into Monday morning, calls for clearing out skies, remaining windy at times through Midnight tonight, before becoming breezy after that and overnight temperatures falling back down to either side of 30 degrees by Monday morning. Monday is Presidents’ Day, which means many schools will be off tomorrow. For folks who do have to work tomorrow, you will see mostly sunny skies, breezy conditions from time to time and highs in the middle 40s. Tuesday features mostly cloudy skies and highs in the middle to upper 40s. Wednesday and Thursday are VIPIR Alert Days for a Winter Storm on the way to Central Virginia. We are currently still ironing out the details, such as the overall timing, snowfall amounts, and impacts from this upcoming Winter Storm, so stay with us. Right now, I would say the approximate peak timing of the accumulating snowfall will occur around the middle of the day Wednesday and last through Wednesday night, before rapidly ending early Thursday morning. Most locations look to get accumulating snowfall from this storm system middle of this week, while locations in Southern Virginia may see more of a Wintry Mix situation develop. You can expect very difficult travel from Noon Wednesday through Midnight Wednesday night, right now, based on what the computer weather models are showing us now. Again, expect changes with the weather forecast middle of this week, as we continue to fine tune the details on this upcoming Winter Storm on the way. Friday through early next week, will all be quieter and cooler, which will allow us to enjoy a break from all these storm systems we have been seeing a lot of lately.
