Suspect in VSU shooting now in custody after month-long search

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A suspect is now in custody in connection with the deadly shooting that occurred in early October on Virginia State University's (VSU) campus.

On Oct. 4 at 11:02 p.m., police responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon on Third Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found 20-year-old Omarion Bryant, of Dinwiddie County, with multiple gunshot wounds. Bryant was pronounced dead on the scene, according to police.

Following this incident, on Oct. 6, police then arrested Jalen Johnson, of Prince George County for what police described as "accessory after the fact of homicide in relation to the shooting."

According to police, Johnson is currently being held without bond in the Chesterfield County Jail.

Chesterfield County Police later obtained a search warrant for second-degree homicide for 19-year-old Latrell Creighton of Brunswick Avenue in Dinwiddie.

Police have since been on the search for Creighton, and on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at around 8 p.m., Creighton was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Fugitive Task Force.

This comes after police received a tip from a community member that led to Creighton’s arrest in Fairfield Court in Richmond.
