Tanglewood Ordinary Restaurant to celebrate 40 years of Virginia Southern comfort food

GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Tanglewood Ordinary Restaurant will be celebrating its 40th anniversary with a special cake in May.

In a March 29 press release from Tanglewood Ordinary Restaurant, it was announced that on Friday, May 1, the restaurant will celebrate 40 years of serving "Grandmother's Sunday Dinner" -- Virginia Southern comfort food.

The owners of the restaurant, Anne and Jim Hardwick, are proud of the restaurant they have built. Tanglewood has become a place where young couples now bring their grandchildren.

“It’s the kind of meal where everybody gathers, the bowls and platters go around the table, and nobody is in a hurry to leave,” Anne Hardwick said in a release.

The restaurant would not be the same without Jenifer Ellett, manager of the front of house and baker of all the desserts, and James Breeden, a longtime kitchen worker. Together, they have worked to make customers become long-time regulars, per a release.

For the anniversary on May 1, Tanglewood plans to celebrate quietly to stay with the character of the place.

“We are going to serve Celebration Cake made by Jenifer as a thank you to our dine-in guests on that Friday, while it lasts,” Anne Hardwick said in a release.

The Hardwicks stated that they plan on keeping Tanglewood open for as long as possible.

“We are going to continue to love it until it is time for someone to love it more than we do,” Jim Hardwick said in a release.

Tanglewood Ordinary Restaurant is open Friday from 4:30 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 4:30 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 7 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling or texting 804-556-3284.
