Teen arrested after drive-by shooting near Albemarle High School

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting near Albemarle High School that took place back in January.

Officers with the Albemarle County Police Department (ACPD) were dispatched to UVA Health at 10:23 p.m. on Jan. 16 after a person arrived with a gunshot wound in non-life-threatening condition.

After speaking with witnesses, officials determined the shooting happened around an hour earlier while the victim was driving through an area near Albemarle High School on Hydraulic Road and Lambs Road.

Shell casings were recovered by officers that responded to the scene.

Following an investigation, ACPD arrested a 17-year-old boy on Monday, Feb. 23 and charged him with three felonies -- use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, malicious wounding and shooting within 1,000 feet of a school.
