The Purrfect Bean raises over $2,000 at pop-up community fundraiser for repairs following flood damage

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Purrfect Bean, the Richmond cat café, raised over $2,000 at a recent pop-up fundraiser to help cover repairs and equipment after major flooding temporarily closed the business in early December.

On Saturday, Dec. 6, the Richmond community rallied to support the now-temporarily closed business with a pop-up pay-what-you-can at Byrd Park. The pop-up included a limited Purrfect Bean and Exit Plan menu collaboration.

The Purrfect Bean told 8News on Friday, Dec. 12 that it raised over $2,000 at its Byrd Park fundraiser. It added that its GoFundMe now reflects its current progress and goal, which has been increased by $13,000.

"The public heartwarmingly showed up for us at the pop-up fundraiser," the business said. "We’re still assessing repairs and plan to open as soon as possible."

According to the GoFundMe page, $10,446 has been raised of the now $15,000 goal, totaling 215 donations.

The flooding at the cat café, which opened in August at 214 N. Lombardy St. in Richmond’s Fan District, was caused by a “series of freak accidents” involving a cat named Roller, the Purrfect Bean said.

The business is expected to be closed for the remainder of the year and will post updates on the progress of repairs as they come.

The space was formerly home to Westray’s Finest Ice Cream.
