Three Lakes Park & Nature Center reopens in Henrico

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Three Lakes Park & Nature Center has officially reopened in Henrico as of Thursday morning.

Henrico County, along with its Division of Recreation & Parks, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11 at the nature center located at 400 Sausiluta Drive.

According to the county, updates to the facility include new and enhanced interactive play features, accessibility improvements, an outdoor education space and living exhibits for snakes, frogs, spiders, an eel and other wildlife.

This project is the first major upgrade made to the Three Lakes Park since the 1990s, and is estimated to have cost around $4.6 million, the county said.

A main mission of the center is to teach people ways to respect animals that they might be afraid of.

Three Lakes Park is open daily from dusk to dawn, and the operating hours for the nature center are as follows:

  • April to October: Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • November to March: Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
