Tractor-trailer crash in Hanover closes lanes on I-95

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) said drivers can expect delays after a tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 95 near Kings Dominion.

The crash happened this morning, March 11, due to an overturned trailer that was hauling cars.

Several vehicles that were loaded onto the truck were knocked out of place and thrown onto the shoulder and embankment.

An investigation is currently underway, but according to Virginia State Police (VSP), the preliminary investigation suggests that the tractor-trailer veered off the road and struck the stationary car hauler on the shoulder.

The force of the collision caused the tractor-trailer to overturn, and both drivers sustained injuries, none of which are life-threatening as of this time, according to state police.

There is a four-mile back up, and all northbound lanes are closed. Due to this extended closure state police is working with VDOT to create a detour at exit 89 near Lewistown Road.

This is a developing story, stay with 8News for more updates. For more information on detours and alternate routes, check VDOT's website.
