Truck driver located in Lancaster County crash, Virginia State Police investigating
LANCASTER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia State Police said the driver of a truck and camper initially reported in a hit-and-run crash on Norris Bridge earlier this month has been located.
As a result, new information has changed the nature of the investigation.
The crash occurred around 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, when a silver or gray pickup truck pulling a large white camper was reported to have crossed the centerline on westbound Route 3. It hit a van traveling in the opposite direction.
The impact caused the van to collide with a third vehicle. The drivers of the van and the third vehicle were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to state police.
Initially classified as a hit-and-run, the incident has now been reclassified as a two-vehicle crash following interviews with the truck driver and third-party witness statements as of Aug. 13.
The truck and camper were inspected by state police and found not to be involved in causing the crash. Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
Authorities thanked members of the public for tips that helped identify the driver and clarify the circumstances of the crash.
