Two additional families settle with Henrico NICU after babies were hurt, neglected

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Henrico Doctors’ Hospital has settled with two additional families whose babies were injured or experienced other forms of neglect while in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), meaning at least nine families have reached settlements.

Two families represented by attorney Derrick Walker settled in Salem Circuit Court with Henrico Doctors’ Hospital on Thursday, June 26, after their babies were injured or experienced other forms of neglect while in the hospital’s NICU, according to the Salem Court clerk's office.

These settlements are the result of civil suits filed on behalf of multiple families against HCA Healthcare, which operates the hospital.

This comes after seven other families settled with the hospital.

8News reached out to Walker and HCA Healthcare for comment on the settlement.

The civil case is separate from the criminal proceedings involving former NICU nurse Erin Strotman, who still faces 20 charges in connection with the nine injured babies. Her trial is set for February 2026.
