Two drivers injured after SUV hits disabled vehicle on I-85 in Dinwiddie
DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Two drivers are injured after police said an SUV hit a disabled vehicle on Interstate 85 North in Dinwiddie County Wednesday evening.
At around 9:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, a disabled vehicle was stopped partially in the left lane on northbound I-85 in Dinwiddie County when it was hit on the rear passenger side by a Chevrolet Blazer, according to Virginia State Police.
Officials said the impact caused the Chevrolet to move into the right lane, lose control and overturn several times before running off the road and hitting multiple trees.
A tractor-trailer heading in the right lane also reportedly hit the disabled vehicle. The driver then lost control, ran off the left side of the road and the trailer overturned, splitting in half and causing its load to spill onto the road.
Police said the drivers of both the disabled vehicle and the Chevrolet reported having non-life-threatening injuries.
Lanes were reportedly closed for an extended period to facilitate cleanup of debris from the crash.
Officials continue to investigate the crash.
