University of Richmond to host Hip Hop Week in November

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The University of Richmond's (UR) Department of Theatre & Dance is hosting its second annual Hip Hop Week in November.

Students, faculty and Richmond community members are invited to attend the event, taking place from Nov. 4 to Nov. 6, for a three-day celebration that aims to showcase hip hop's impact on American culture.

“Hip Hop Week is about more than music or dance. It’s about recognizing hip hop as a powerful cultural force – one that informs art, policy, education, and business, while giving voice to communities and sparking creativity worldwide," said Deandra Clarke, a theatre and dance instructor and organizer of the event.

Among several other programs, artists Radio B & Nickelus F will be hosting a creative writing and music production workshop, and UR instructor Melissa Tiggle will be leading a hip hop dance class.
